Shedding Light on the Treatment of Soft Tissue Injuries

laserBefore you take another Ibuprofen for your achy muscles or to combat inflammation, read this.

Muscle strains, sprained ankles, tendonitis, plantar fasciitis. When it comes to minor soft tissue injuries, these are some of the most common that occur, whether you’re an elite athlete or not. Treatment of these has classically been a combination of pain-relieving medication and the RICE protocol (rest, ice, compression and elevation).

At the Springfield Wellness Center, we take a different approach to combating inflammation that results from such injuries, primarily through the use of Deep Laser Therapy. This form of therapy is used by medical teams for athletes at the highest level to accelerate recovery, and it will do the same for you.

Deep Tissue Laser Therapy uses light energy to provide deeper penetration into the tissues down to the cellular level. By stimulating a process known as photobiomodulation, deep laser therapy increases the metabolism of cells, which allows them to generate more energy. This energy is then used to break up inflammation and simultaneously promote healing of the tissues that are damaged. Also, treatment using deep laser therapy is quick and completely pain-free.

Treatment usually lasts around 5 minutes, and results are often seen after only a few treatments. Unlike non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), which can cause uncomfortable side effects such as causing damage to the lining of the stomach, deep laser therapy causes no adverse effects. Simply put, it provides the quickest possible path to getting back to doing the things you love to do, and there’s nothing more valuable than that.
